How do I Shut Off the Water Supply to a Faucet, Toilet, Water Heater, Home etc.?

Homes come with emergency shut off valves for all plumbing systems, including one for your entire home. They can be found under sinks, behind toilets, on top of the water heater and outside attached to your plumbing water service coming into your home.

Maintaining these shut off valves is extremely important as they are your saviours to prevent flooding and damage to your home. If the valves cannot be shut off completely or are rusted the need to be replaced immediately. To shut off these valves, turn them in a clockwise direction.
